Quick answers
Both need to be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID, with iCloud turned on for Mr. McGregor in Settings. Changes sync when both are online; give it a minute after opening the app.
In the app, open Settings and choose Share this garden: Apple's share sheet sends the invitation. Once it's shared, Manage sharing shows who's in, lets you choose whether each person can only look or can edit too, and stops sharing.
Open their invitation on an iPhone with Mr. McGregor installed. Their garden appears beside your own, and it uses their iCloud storage, not yours.
The steward runs on Apple Intelligence, so it needs an iPhone that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Just after it's turned on, Apple's model may still be downloading; try again a little later.
Your iPhone reads Home Assistant or Ecowitt directly, so it has to be able to reach them: on your home Wi-Fi, or at an address that works from outside it. Check the address and key in the app's settings. Readings missed while you were away are filled in from Home Assistant's history the next time your iPhone reaches it.
Delete a garden in the app and it's gone from your iPhone and your iCloud. You can also remove everything the app keeps in iCloud from your iCloud storage in Settings. Backups can be deleted in the app, under Settings › Backups, or write to us and we'll delete them.
